Getting Started

For those new to yoga, we have a regular Introductory Course available. This is a valuable opportunity to learn at a slower, more detailed pace to transition to general yoga classes easier.

No matter what age you are, there is a course for you at The Yoga Room. Yoga for the over-sixties has a greater focus on maintaining and improving health as well as building body strength.

My yoga journey began over 20 years ago in Christchurch with the well-respected Iyengar Yoga teacher Wendy Brown.  At the time I was challenged with “back issues” which later led me to spinal surgery. The benefits of yoga that I have personally experienced have been life-changing and today I am passionate about sharing the gift of yoga with you!

I am immensely grateful for the support and encouragement of many Yoga Teachers both in New Zealand and around the world, including BKS Iyengar (India), Nicky Knoff (Australia), and James Bryon (Australia). These teachers have supported me in my own practice with their knowledge and wisdom, and have greatly influenced my teaching.

I am a registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with the Yoga Alliance and teach a combination of Ashtanga and Iyengar yoga styles, blending safe alignment with flowing sequences and also specialising in back care.

My joy is connecting with people from all walks of life – supporting and encouraging their own personal yoga journey in the most nurturing way possible.

About The Yoga Room

The Yoga Room is situated in Spring Creek – about 6.5 kilometres (or, to put it another way, only 6-8 minutes) from central Blenheim. The yoga studio is a dedicated room in the Spring Creek Community Hall.  Our clients come from all over Marlborough – from Blenheim to Picton, Rarangi to Grovetown – and further afield. It is a welcoming, friendly, tranquil environment and is open to all.

We hold regular classes to suit students of all ages, levels and abilities.

We offer introductory courses, workplace yoga, yoga workshops and one-on-one private sessions with individualised programmes.

We work with everyone – whether you are a beginner wanting to be gently introduced to yoga or an experienced practitioner – and it’s OK if you can’t touch your toes!

Our aim at The Yoga Room is to give students the confidence and skills to cope with challenges on and off the mat, helping to achieve optimum health and well being.

The Yoga Room offers a nurturing non-competitive environment where respect and support is paramount to the wellbeing of all.

“I have been hoping to get a chance to say to you how much I enjoy coming to your classes. It is a definite highlight of my week and I certainly miss it when I can’t make it there. So thanks for your knowledge, skill, encouragement, coaching and passion.”

“A great work out today Trudy – you inspire me to go places that I never would have gone, and I so much appreciate the benefits that this brings as I notice the subtle differences in my body. I celebrate the progress that you are helping me discover. You are an inspirational teacher because you always find a positive, and so bring out the best in my (at times) rather feeble efforts, and then in a weeks time I’m thinking hey maybe she is right, that stretch is freer.”
